This workshop details what student-athletes are required to do academically as athletes to remain eligible to compete. The hope is that if we can get a better understanding of what is required for our athletes, we can break down some of the stigma surrounding athletics. At our level, student-athletes get no special scholarships or privileges and I think that is a common misunderstanding for those not involved in our department.
We hear from faculty and campus staff often regarding our athletes - things they've been told and want to know if it's true. We're hoping this workshop would allow for more conversation and better understanding across the board both for athletics and for those outside of our department.
Included:
- CCCAA eligibility requirements
- examples of our student-athlete academic success rates & transfer
- how athletes differ from the general student population
- services for student-athletes
- trying to bridge the gap between athletics and the general campus
