If you attended the preceding AI-focused session, you may want to stick around for another hour and get your hands dirty (virtually, not literally) in our AI lab. This is your chance to try out ChatGPT 3.5 for text creation or a generative AI image creation tool.
We will have multiple computer stations (Mac) set up for you to start a free ChatGPT account. You can try using the app to write a lesson plan, a new assignment, or a discussion prompt. You might enter one of your existing prompts to see how ChatGPT answers it, and then experiment with writing a new AI-proof prompt.
We will also have several computers set up with image-generation apps like Midjourney and Adobe Firefly so you can see how easy it is to create a beautiful graphic or illustration from a simple text prompt.
Seating is limited so first come, first served.

About the Presenters
Don Button, Design & Digital Media
Don has been teaching graphic design and web design at SCC since 2000. Prior to his second career in education he was an award-winning creative director and designer. As a young, tech-savvy designer he would have totally embraced AI; as a middle-aged, nearing retirement design professor, he’s a bit paranoid about the implications.
Dawna DeMartini, English
Dawna has been trying to figure out how to teach English at SCC since 2006. At first she worried that ChatGPT and the like would render her superfluous; however, she’s now convinced that writing teachers are becoming more important than ever.
Chris Seddon, Design Lab
Chris is a lifelong tech nerd who has been using computers since before they were cool. (Yes, even before the internet.) As the Coordinator of the Design Lab at SCC for the past 23 years, he's seen a lot of changes in the tech world. But his passion for helping people use technology to improve their lives has never wavered. Chris is always looking for new ways to make technology fun and accessible to everyone. He is always willing to help out, and he's always learning new things. (P.S. He had some help from AI on this bio, but don't tell anyone.)
