Access to and competency in the online world is mandatory for full participation in our society today, yet the digital divide is real and an impediment that we--as employees of open-access community colleges--are morally obligated to address.
Our disproportionately impacted community members are especially disadvantaged by the increase in reliance on the online modality for not only the application process but the actual learning process: it's all mediated through the digital device. Yet many of our community members lack the access and competencies to effectively operate digital devices.
How should we at the LRCCD address this persistent digital divide and our increasingly digital (work) world?
Join this session to participate in a discussion about the digital divide, information overload, and related concepts that describe not only the state of learning for students but the state of work for college employees who must adapt to the increasingly digital world.
