Over a two-year period the typical full-time faculty load is sixty (60) formula hours. But "in order to meet department or scheduling problems, the District reserves the right to make an assignment over that two-year period which could vary from sixty (60) - sixty-two (62) formula hours".
What exactly does this mean?
If you are a full-time faculty member who teaches classes that are not standard 3-unit lectures, you have most likely run into the concept of "load balancing" - the process that tracks your schedule over the two-year period to ensure that you fall within the 60-62 formula hour range.
Have you ever wondered how this works? Are you curious about when a class is can be counted as part of your load and when you must be paid as overload?
Come to this workshop if your schedule is load-balanced, and you don't understand how that works.
This workshop is for full-time faculty who are scheduled for lab/studio/shop, lecture/lab combos, and lectures that are not 3-units as part of their regular teaching load. It won't be applicable to part-time faculty, non-instructional faculty, or faculty who only teach 3-unit lectures.
