Presenters

Kisha Quesada Turner is a Black graduate of PWIs which has made her long- and hyper-aware of the richness of Black Englishes and the under-utilization of them in classrooms. Not wanting to perpetuate that missed opportunity as an educator, she began to work with Michelle Cruz Gonzales and Karin Spirn to develop Next-Level English, a series of theories and lessons that guide students to integrate their under-utilized Englishes (and selves) into their academic writing.

Michelle Gonzales earned her MFA in English and Creative Writing and BA in English with an Ethnic Studies minor, both from Mills College. She is English faculty at Las Positas College and a linguistic justice trainer for the Puente PD statewide. Her peer reviewed chapter ""Not Just One White Way Down the Middle of the Road: An Argument for Identity in Academic Writing and Strengths-Based Assessment"" will be published in Reconceptualizing Response by Utah State University Press.

Makeba Rangel is a member of the SCC English Department and coordinates the English Lounge.

Rachel Spangler is a member of the SCC English Department and serves as English faculty for the Puente Project. She also teaches English at Folsom Prison through the PREP program.
