Scientific research strongly supports the many benefits of spending time in nature as a clear way of caring for self and prompting a soothing and contemplative mindfulness. Similarly, recent credible studies tout the Awe walk - a walk in new or familiar surroundings - in which one's only job is to notice and experience anything that strikes them as "amazing". This thing might be small, big, or even grandiose and is very particularly amazing or stunning to the individual. The significant power in the "Awe walk lies in developing the practice of capturing moments in daily life that bring joy, satisfaction, and wonder. Science shows that claiming these wondrous moments produces calm and reduces stress and anxiety, inspires productivity and best performance, and ushers in joy and surprise.
Won't you join me for a short 45-min Awe walk around campus? Together, let's see our campus environment with fresh eyes, as though we're experiencing it for the first time. And together, let's develop the art of noticing the seemingly mundane, but absolutely amazing. Such a practice will fortify us and prepare us to take on the upcoming and challenging tasks of spring semester.
Participants will be asked to join in a brief "share-out" after the Awe walk.
Meet in front of SCC's Natural Science Buildings and walk around campus.
