For sixty summers, the Sacramento Shakespeare Festival at Sacramento City College has brought the Bard to life for our community — and in 2026, we're celebrating in style. From July 3–26, join us for our 60th Anniversary Season, featuring Twelfth Night, the very play that launched the festival in 1966.
Set in 1966 Philadelphia, this wicked reimagining of Shakespeare’s beloved comedy pulses with the rhythm of the Northeast soul scene. Twelfth Night spins a tale of mistaken identities, love triangles, and musical mischief, all wrapped in the vibrant energy of girl‑group harmonies and Chicago‑style brass. Celebrate sixty years of Shakespearean magic with a production that’s bold, joyful, and irresistibly alive.
Directed by faculty members in Theatre Arts, Christine Nicholson and Lori Ann DeLappe‑Grondin, this vibrant production bursts with popping 1960s themes, live music, and a full‑tilt dance party, blending Shakespeare's wit with the electric joy of the decade that began it all.
Opening night on July 3 includes a special Gala Reception immediately following the performance in the Daubert Courtyard for the Arts. College President Albert Garcia will kick off a yearlong celebration honoring six decades of artistry — and the retirement of longtime festival leader Luther Hanson, whose more than twenty years of dedication helped shape SSF into the beloved tradition it is today.
Come raise a glass, revel in the music, and celebrate 60 years of Shakespeare in Sacramento. The summer begins with a party — and you're invited.
