Every student brings a story into the classroom, but not every classroom creates the conditions for those stories to be shared, heard, and valued. This session explores how structured, student-driven dialogue can help surface those stories in meaningful ways, supporting both engagement and a deeper sense of belonging.
Through real classroom examples, including Tess’s use of digital dialogue in her Russian language courses, we will examine how narrative and interaction can be intentionally designed into coursework to strengthen connection and support persistence. We will also explore how these interaction patterns offer "human-centered" data, helping instructors better understand and support their learners' journeys. Additionally, we will briefly touch upon how generative AI can support student storytelling and language practice.
Participants will leave with practical ideas for integrating dialogue-based activities into their courses to foster inclusive, student-centered learning environments.
