Academic freedom is one of the most important — and most misunderstood — protections we have as community college educators.
But what does it actually mean in practice?
What does it protect, where does it have limits, and how does it apply to the unique environment of a two-year institution?

- Ilana Johnson is a professor in the Anthropology Department and is currently serving at the Academic Senate Vice President and Equity Coordinator.
- Meili (Lily) Xu is a professor in the Computer Information Science Department and recently worked to pass a resolution on academic freedom for the Academic Senate of California Community Colleges.
- Andrea Greenwell is a professor in the Biology Department and has been an advocate for protecting the academic freedom of professors within the Los Rios Community College District.
