This interactive workshop is designed for SCC faculty and staff who want to deepen their understanding of the Native American communities whose ancestral homelands are connected to the Sacramento region and whose students are part of our campus community.

Moving beyond land acknowledgments, participants will engage in discussion and collaborative activities focused on the experiences of Native American peoples, while learning about the diversity of Tribal Nations represented within our SCC student population.

Participants will:

  • gain greater awareness of local and regional Tribal communities
  • become familiar with available Tribal resources
  • explore the unique challenges Native American students encounter in higher education

The goal of this session is to expand participants’ professional toolboxes with practical, culturally responsive strategies that can be implemented within the classrooms, counseling, Student Services programs, and overall support for Native American student success.
