Spring 2026 Convocation - The Stories We Carry: Belonging, Data, and the Human Narrative of Student Success

Every student who walks through our doors carries a story. And so do we.

Building on our college's enduring commitments to curiosity and belonging, this fall we invite our campus community to explore how storytelling — as pedagogy, as institutional strategy, and as an act of cultural responsiveness — can deepen our connection to students and to one another.

The theme "Sac City: The Stories We Carry" centers the idea that human narrative and institutional data are not separate tools — they are complementary lenses. When we pair the numbers with the lived experiences behind them, we move closer to the equitable, student-centered college we are committed to becoming.

  This is an in-person event and everyone is invited and highly encouraged to join us. A remote option is available for accessibility reasons-- please communicate with your division dean/manager regarding your attendance needs.

Zero Waste Event

Bring Your Cup and Utensils

Please help us celebrate this Fall 2025 Convocation by continuing our efforts in holding a zero-waste Convocation. We are asking all employees who attend the morning festivities to please:

• bring your own container for hot/cold beverages, and
• consider bringing your own plate and cloth napkin

to help us reduce our carbon footprint.

Compostable plates, utensils, and napkins will be available. But this is our chance to take the challenge to produce as little waste as possible, just by bringing materials from our offices and home to eat/drink from.

Be sure to talk to folks around you, remind your department members to bring their own cup, learn more about the three general waste streams we have on campus, and let's practice sustainability in action every day!
