Let's Talk About Discussion Forums

Discussion forums are the go-to method in our fully online courses to create engagement between ourselves and our students and between students. Unfortunately, forums often feel superficial and lackluster. The idea sharing is sometimes repetitive and the sheer volume of messaging is overwhelming to both instructor and students. It is not uncommon for everyone in the class to post at 11:50 pm on the due date with responses being some variation of "I agree."

It doesn't have to be this way! Let's get together and share our best practices and brainstorm solutions and out of the box thinking about how to structure discussions. Consider doing some online research on the topic and bring your favorite idea to the group.

Let's help each other make our discussion forums meaningful, community building, and a productive way to measure course outcomes!
