Frequently asked questions about Instructional and Career Education Program Review.
Instructional Program Review
When will department chairs be alerted that a program review is due for their department/program?
One of the tri-chairs from the program review committee will reach out to department chairs about one year before the due date (in February).
Is there anywhere to go to see the program review schedule if I want to plan with more advanced notice?
Yes, you can find the calendar for program review here.
Will there be any training or assistance with program review?
Yes, there will be a kick off meeting offered in October that will describe the process, and where to find appropriate data. Additionally, training may be scheduled based on interest and need. The PRIE office, the Program Review Committee, and the Faculty Research Coordinator will be available to assist you throughout the process.
What is the due date for the program review report?
The program review report will be due the last Friday in February (roughly four months after the kick-off meeting).
Is the Department Chair solely responsible for completing the program review report?
Absolutely not. This should be a department-wide effort and discussion. The program review report should serve as both a reflective and planning document, so it is essential that it is a collaborative effort. The department chair will need to be prepared to coordinate the process and will be the only faculty member in the department who will have access to the program review dashboard, so it may be helpful to divide up work early so the department chair can provide other faculty with data if needed. Most of the data required for program review is available to all faculty members via the PRIE dashboards.
What happens if the report is submitted after the deadline?
If the report is turned in late, feedback of the program review will likely get pushed to the following year, depending on how tardy the report is. The program review schedule is fixed, so if you submit a report the fall after it is due, the window for your next report will be accelerated (five years from when you turned it in instead of six). Program review is a required part of accreditation, so it is mandatory to complete them, and being timely will help our college process run more efficiently.
Who do I submit the program report to?
Send your finished program review report to the Program Review Committee tri-chairs.
What happens after I submit the program review report?
The program review committee will assign two readers to the report, and at least one of those readers will be instructional faculty. The readers of your report will reach out to schedule a conversation and to offer feedback in March, April, or May. If a report is submitted late or the program review committee is short on readers, the conversation may be delayed until the fall after you submitted your report.
Additionally, you will be invited to give a short presentation (2-3 slides) to the President’s Cabinet, which will provide an opportunity for you to provide updates on your program with college leadership. Those presentations will be scheduled the academic year after your program review report is completed.
Are we supposed to do anything with the goals that are created in the action plan section of the program review report?
Yes, three years after your program review report submission, you will report an update on the progress of the goals you selected in your action plan. The goals of the action plan will be analyzed at the aggregate level to support college-wide data for planning and to assess work taking place towards the college mission and strategic master plan.
Will I receive any notification when I am supposed to submit the check-in report of my action plan goals?
Yes, you will receive notification that your action plan update is due, receiving a reminder in October with a due date of February. The reporting is concise, so departments should be able to turn around the reporting quickly and can certainly submit it well before the deadline.
Should action plan goals be related to resource requests?
The action plan is not the formal process to request department resources; that will be conducted through your division-wide unit plans. However, your action plan could be a place for you to reflect on the data and development of resource requests that you then request for future unit planning and resource requests. Action items can and should also pertain to goals that are not resource-related (curriculum development, pedagogical practices, student voice, marketing, OER, student engagement etc.)

Any curriculum changes should take place the fall after you submit your program review report.
