Our official logos are the visual cornerstone of Sacramento City College's brand. Acting as a signature, an identifier, and a stamp of quality, they represent us at the very highest level.

To maintain a clear and cohesive identity, please follow the standards outlined below.

Please note: All logos on this page have been federally trademarked by Los Rios Community College District for Sacramento City College and FLC Falcon Athletics use only; no outside entities are permitted to use without express written consent from SCC's Public Information Services Office (pio@scc.losrios.edu).

Our Identity

The Sacramento City College logo visually references the historic and widely recognized architectural detail of the Rodda buildings on campus.

It was designed to echo the architectural design of these and many other buildings on campus, which have become iconic hallmarks of the college.

The logo symbolizes the foundation and gateway to higher education that SCC offers students in the region and beyond. It has a traditional feel and exemplifies excellence—SCC’s tradition of excellence.

Our identity also includes the College Seal and our Athletic Logo.

Logo Usage Guidelines

Structure

Our Logo is made up of two distinct elements: the Symbol and the Wordmark. Each iteration of the logo is a carefully balanced combination of the two elements. The various iterations are mostly interchangeable and can be used in a variety of ways, but should never be altered or changed. Never change the positioning, sizing, or spacing.

Clear Space

An Exclusion Zone (the minimum unobstructed area around the logo) has been developed to make sure that the logo is sufficiently prominent. Use the height of the middle bridge section when measuring for the proper clear space. This measuring tool is always in relation to the size of the logo on the page.

Color

All versions of our logo may be reproduced on white or light grey backgrounds in either the color, black, or red versions (See page 14 for full explanation of the brand color scheme). They may be reproduced in white on a black, SCC Cardinal Red or other appropriate dark background. Over SCC Gold or other appropriate light colored backgrounds, the logo must only be printed in black. The color version of the logo cannot be printed on black or dark-colored backgrounds.

Downloaded logo packages contain full-color, black, red, and/or white versions. These color guidelines should be followed:

  • Make sure there is enough contrast for the white logo on a color background
  • CMYK color logos are for print use (for example: printed flyers or posters)
  • RGB color logos are for screen use (for example: email, web, or video)

See our color guide for official color values.

Secondary Logos

To properly present your department, area, or program at Sacramento City College, it is important to maintain consistency with the college's branding. Secondary logos are an excellent way to visually communicate the relationship between the college and your area.

Secondary logos are depicted with the official architectural symbol, and the SCC wordmark, with the department/area/program name below. Co-brands can be printed in full color or black and white For assistance in creating a secondary logo, please complete a Graphic Design Request via the Marketing & Website Support Request Form.

SCC Academic Senate logo

Which College Entities Are Allowed To Use These Secondary Logos?

The following entities are permitted and should use the official secondary logo: educational centers, academic departments/divisions, college libraries, student support services, and instructional support services.

Specialty Logos

Official college logos—including side-by-side lockups and approved secondary logos—are designed to maintain a clear, consistent, and recognizable Sacramento City College brand. The creation of numerous unique logos weakens brand recognition, reduces effectiveness, and can create confusion for students and the community. For these reasons, additional logos are strongly discouraged and approved only in limited circumstances.

Are There Any Exceptions?

A limited number of college departments or programs may require a specialty logo due to specific functional or programmatic needs. Approved exceptions may include affinity programs, student life initiatives, or programs with established trademarked identities (such as Undocu-Resource Center or Panther Cares Center).

All specialty logos must clearly connect to Sacramento City College and are subject to review and approval by the Public Information Services Office prior to use. Requests can be submitted to pio@scc.losrios.edu.

If You Have an Approved Specialty Logo

  • The specialty logo may be used on its own for internal campus communications.

  • For all external marketing and communications, the specialty logo must appear alongside the official college logo.

  • Once approved, the specialty logo must be retained for a minimum of three years to support brand continuity and integrity.

Please note: A small number of specialty logos were legacied in prior to the implementation of these guidelines.

How Else Can I Promote My Program, Service, or Event?

The college and district offer a wide range of marketing and promotional support options that do not require the creation of a specialty logo. Departments are encouraged to submit a Marketing & Website Support Request Form to explore available resources, including graphic design, event promotion, and web services, all provided at no cost by the Los Rios Marketing & Communications team.

Legacy Logo

Sketch SCC

The Sketch SCC typographic mark will continue to be available for selected uses. It will not be used on official college publications. However, it may be used on department, service, or program-specific print materials as desired. The typographic mark should not be used in conjunction with any other college mark.

The typographic mark may be used in black, SCC Cardinal Red (Pantone 202), and white (for dark color backgrounds).

Note

The Sketch SCC Mark has been updated to reflect the new SCC Brand typography. The “Sacramento City College” is now in Futura Medium. Do not use the older version of the mark with the Optima font.
