Classified Senate Officers and Senators

Carmen has been a proud member of the Sacramento City College community for more than 20 years, serving in roles that span science education, professional development, and serving in every role in Classified Senate over her tenure. Currently, the Staff Resource Center Assistant and President of the Classified Senate, Carmen is dedicated to advancing a collective care mindset, amplifying equity-infused pathways for personal and professional growth, and building a connective network of support for all Classified Professionals.

Outside of work, Carmen finds restorative restful practices in nature and hanging out with good people, creative delights in painting and enjoying local art, frivolity in playing board games and tabletop roleplaying games, and finding joy in the small things.

Lisa serves as the Vice President of the Classified Senate at Sacramento City College. With 10 years of service split between American River College and SCC, she brings a deep understanding of the district and a strong commitment to advocacy. Lisa believes that because classified professionals give so much of themselves, they deserve someone who will advocate for them in return. She is dedicated to uplifting her colleagues and fostering a supportive campus community. Outside of work, Lisa enjoys traveling, attending live music events, and indulging in vegan banana nut bread.

Angie serves as the Treasurer for the Sacramento City College Classified Senate. She has been a dedicated member of the SCC community for over 5 years, working in Counseling. Angie joined the Classified Senate because she is passionate about supporting her colleagues and creating a positive, inclusive work environment. She is inspired by the opportunity to contribute to the growth and professional development of classified staff. In her free time, Angie enjoys nature-based activities, road trips, and curating eclectic music playlists filled with forgotten hits.

Silvia Aguirre-Barr serves as the Secretary of the Sacramento City College Classified Senate. She has been part of the SCC community for nearly 15 years, supporting the Business, Computer Information Science, and Distance Learning Division Office. Silvia is dedicated to advocating for classified professionals and believes that serving on the Senate provides an important platform to voice the needs and concerns of her colleagues. She is committed to strengthening communication and ensuring that classified staff are represented across campus.

Quarmaine serves as the CET Officer for the Sacramento City College Classified Senate. He has been part of the SCC community for over 24 years, beginning as a student in 2001, later working as a Counseling Clerk, and now serving in Media Services. A dedicated advocate for classified professionals, Quarmaine has previously served as Senator, Vice President, and Interim President of the Senate. Outside of SCC, he is an independent filmmaker and sound engineer with a passion for storytelling, live event production, and horror-themed media.

Kevin serves as the Past President Advisor for the Sacramento City College Classified Senate. He began his career at SCC in 2012 after transferring from American River College and has served as a permanent Los Rios employee for nearly 20 years. Throughout his time at SCC, Kevin has held multiple leadership roles in the Classified Senate, including President and Vice President. He is passionate about ensuring the classified voice is heard and represented both on campus and throughout the Los Rios Community College District. Kevin brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to support current Senate officers in achieving their goals. He is also a proud husband and father who enjoys giving back to his community through various charitable organizations.

Area 1

Sarita Serup serves as the Senator for Area 1 in the Sacramento City College Classified Senate. She has been part of the SCC community for over 8 years, working in Outreach & Recruitment and the Panther Den to support student success. Sarita is committed to elevating the classified professional experience by building collaborations and ensuring classified staff have a voice that is heard. She believes that when classified professionals are motivated to do their best, students are inspired to do theirs. In her free time, Sarita enjoys reading (always the paper kind), dancing to 80s New Wave, listening to Lucinda Williams, and watching British crime dramas. Humor and food are her love languages—she often says, “If we don’t laugh, we cry,” and “I like to eat my emotions.”

Area 2

Custodial Services; Maintenance; Operations; Receiving; Reprographics

Sean serves as the Senator for Area 2 in the Sacramento City College Classified Senate. He has been a part of the SCC community for 10 years, beginning as a Student Helper and Temp Classified before becoming a permanent Classified Staff member. Sean joined the Senate because he is committed to making a positive impact on his campus community. In his free time, he enjoys watching movies, reading, and traveling.

Area 3

Admissions and Records;  International Student Center; DSPS; WorkAbility; C2C (College to Career); Disability Cultural Center, Veterans Resource Center, ECP/Dual Enrollment/ HSI

Carmen Pereira serves as Co-Senator for Area 3 in the Sacramento City College Classified Senate. She has been a valued member of the SCC community for 10 years, supporting students through her work in the Disability Services & Programs for Students (DSPS) office. Carmen joined the Senate to deepen her connection with the campus, foster a sense of community, and actively advocate for the interests of classified professionals. She is committed to being a collaborative and engaged representative for her colleagues. In her free time, Carmen enjoys bird watching, nature study, hiking, yarn crafts, creative writing, reading, and attending plays and concerts.

Aurora serves as a Senator for Area 3, a position she shares with Carmen Pereira, in the Sacramento City College Classified Senate. With over 17 years of service at SCC, Aurora has been a dedicated advocate for student support and accessibility. She joined the Senate in response to a friend’s call to serve, continuing her commitment to community and collaboration. Outside of work, Aurora creates art as a way to heal and express her emotions.

Area 4

Counseling; Retention and Persistence; Transfer Center

Donnaven Bradley serves as the Senator for Area 4 in the Sacramento City College Classified Senate. While he has been back at SCC for nearly 3 years, his total time employed at the college spans close to 7 years. Through his work in General Counseling, Donnaven remains committed to supporting students and helping them navigate their academic paths. He joined the Classified Senate to gain a deeper understanding of college operations and to become a more impactful advocate within the SCC community. In his free time, Donnaven enjoys fishing and spending time near the water.

Area 5

Davis Center; West Sacramento Center; Los Rios Police Department

Luz serves as the Senator for Area 5 in the Sacramento City College Classified Senate. With 15 years of experience across all three SCC locations, she brings a well-rounded perspective to her role. Luz joined the Senate to stay connected with her colleagues and remain informed about campus and district-wide developments. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time in nature and dedicates most of her energy to raising her two daughters and doting on the family dog, Apollo.

Area 6

Behavioral and Social Sciences; Kinesiology, Health and Athletics, Panther Cares; Makerspace; Office of Intervention

Courtney serves as a Senator for Area 6 in the Sacramento City College Classified Senate, a role she shares with Graciela Castañeda Aguayo from the Campus Interventions Office. Although she has been with SCC for just one year, Courtney has been deeply inspired by the welcoming and supportive atmosphere that classified professionals create for one another and for students. Previously serving as a CSEA union steward at another college, Courtney brings with her valuable experience in advocacy and collaboration. She hopes to help foster a strong, connected community for classified professionals at SCC. In her free time, Courtney enjoys listening to her vinyl collection and playing board games with friends.

Graciela Castañeda Aguayo serves as a Senator for Area 6 in the Sacramento City College Classified Senate, alongside Courtney Bowie. She has been part of the SCC community for several years—first as a student worker, then as a Classified Temp Student Support Assistant at Panther CARES, and now in her full-time role supporting the Campus Interventions Office under Dean Coleman. Graciela joined the Senate because she believes in fostering a safe and collaborative culture where classified professionals feel empowered and have opportunities to grow and build their knowledge to better serve students. On weekends, you’ll likely find her on the sidelines of multiple soccer games, cheering and managing teams for her family and friends. And one more thing—she absolutely loves anything pink!

Area 7

Technology and Innovation; Humanities and Fine Arts; Language Arts & Library, RISE

Monica M. Souza serves as the Senator for Area 7 in the Sacramento City College Classified Senate. She has worked in the Los Rios Community College District for over 30 years, beginning her journey as a student employee at American River College. Monica is a proud alumna of ARC, SCC, and California State University, Sacramento. A three-time recipient of the SCC Classified Community Outreach Award, Monica is a strong believer in the power of collaboration and community. She is a long-time advocate for professional development, participatory governance, and classified professional leadership—serving at the state level as President Emerita of the California Community Colleges Classified Senate. In addition to her campus contributions, Monica has volunteered extensively with local and state nonprofit organizations, particularly within California’s Portuguese communities. A lifelong learner with a passion for helping others, Monica continues to uplift and support her colleagues through every opportunity she can.

Area 8

Mathematics, Statistics and Engineering; Natural Sciences; Education and Health Professions; MESA

Dustin serves as the Senator for Area 8 in the Sacramento City College Classified Senate. Since joining SCC in January 2023, they have worked in the Biology Department as one of two stockroom laboratory technicians, supporting instructional excellence behind the scenes. Dustin values meaningful conversation and especially enjoys discussing a good reality competition show. They bring curiosity, enthusiasm, and a collaborative spirit to both the Senate and the campus community.

Area 9

Business, CIS, and Distance Learning; Career Services; Learning Resources; Tutoring Services; Staff Resource Center; AVP Enrollment and Student Services; Information Technology

Stephanie Cortez serves as the Classified Senate Senator for Area 9 at Sacramento City College. She has worked at SCC for 6 years and joined the Senate early in her tenure to become more involved on campus and connect with colleagues across departments. Since then, she has built meaningful relationships and gained a deeper understanding of the many roles that support student success. In her free time, Stephanie enjoys visiting her favorite place—Disneyland. As an annual passholder, she makes it a point to visit the park a few times each year to recharge and experience the magic.

Alma serves as the Senator for Area 10 in the Sacramento City College Classified Senate. She has been a part of the SCC community for 2 years, providing high-level administrative support in the President’s Office. Alma joined the Senate to help foster a collaborative and supportive environment where classified professionals can connect, grow, and thrive together. Outside of work, she enjoys organizing, dancing, and sightseeing in her free time.

Area 11

Engagement and Completion (Engagement Centers); Student Leadership and Development; CalWorks

Leah Diaz serves as the Senator for Area 11 in the Sacramento City College Classified Senate. With just over a year of service at SCC, Leah is passionate about guiding prospective students and community members as they explore the educational opportunities available, ensuring a smooth and welcoming matriculation process. She joined the Classified Senate to foster cross-campus collaboration, promote transparent communication, and advocate for the voices of classified professionals to be heard and valued. In her free time, Leah enjoys discovering new coffee shops with friends and getting lost in a good book.

Karla Lopez-Chaveste serves as the Senator for Area 11 in the Sacramento City College Classified Senate. A proud SCC alumna, Karla was once supported by many of the same student service programs—and classified professionals—that she now works alongside. Inspired by the care and guidance she received as a student, she chose to return and give back to the campus that helped shape her journey. Karla has been a part of the SCC community for four years and joined the Senate to get more involved, build stronger connections, and support her fellow classified professionals. In her free time, she enjoys nature walks, spending quality time with her family, and discovering new delicious foods.

Senators At Large

Maurice serves as a Senator at Large in the Sacramento City College Classified Senate. He has been part of the SCC community for 2 years, bringing with him a strong background in creative strategy, storytelling, partnership development, and community engagement. Though new to higher education, Maurice is deeply committed to impact-driven communication and public service. He joined the Senate because he believes in the power of service—especially when it means supporting those who support others. Maurice strives to be a resource for SCC’s classified professionals by helping ensure their voices are heard and their perspectives are valued across the institution. He is also passionate about deepening his understanding of the laws, policies, structures, and cultural dynamics that shape higher education. In his free time, Maurice enjoys fitness, engaging in deep philosophical conversations, exploring cultural identity, and being a dedicated father to his two young daughters. His guiding mantra: Know yourself and seek self-improvement. Be yourself and remember.

Melanie Frazier serves as a Classified Senate senator at large, representing Administrative Services at Sacramento City College. She has been a Full-time member of the SCC community for 6 years, supporting the college through her Work in information technology/operations. This is Melanie’s first term in the Senate, and she looks forward to learning more about Senate functions, while working collaboratively with colleagues to help create an effective and supportive work Environment.
